On May 29^th and 30^th a weekend of fun, fierce competition awaits Albuquerque’s Church League Softball teams, and this year we expect to develop the event into a great family experience as well.  For several years Tom Shoemaker of Mountainside Church of Christ has efficiently managed the entire Church Softball League and in recent years has effectively managed the fundraising league tournament as well.  This year, a devoted group of supporters has joined with Tom to make this event a great experience for families as well as the contestants.  On that Friday evening and the following Saturday morning be sure to attend the games and activities on South Second Street at the Barelas Rail Road softball complex.  All who attend will thoroughly enjoy it.

Some of the excitement planned for this year continues from previous years.  The Home Run Derby, for example, has been as much fun as the softball games for many who participate.  If you haven’t seen what those men do to a softball you need to come early on Saturday and marvel.  Of course, we will have valuable awards for the winners of all divisions, too.

Most of the activities and amenities we intend to add this year will benefit the contestants’ families and friends.  Starting with shaded seating, the whole experience should be more comfortable.  Add to the comfort fun like jumpers for children and miniature golf holes for everyone.  We have already received a commitment from a band to entertain the spectators.   For contestants we will facilitate another skills contest, the softball throw.  How delightful will it be when the children who come with their families enjoy a softball throw contest among themselves using the same target used by the big guys?
